1 /5 Fox Friday: I booked a classic manicure - I booked it online several hours in advance. When I walked into the salon, everyone was busy - which was fine. One worker - the owner or at least the person in charge I believe - looked up from the pedicure he was doing and, a bit abrasively, said “Hi. What are you here for?” and I told him I had a 5:30 appointment. He told me to pick out a color and sit down. Fifteen minutes later, no workers were available, but he told me to sit at a table. Fifteen minutes after that, he asked me what color I wanted, and he got it - then went back to working on his other customer.
When he finally did get to working on me, there was no communication - there was no “switch hands”, or “can I see your hand” etc., he just grabbed my hands. Another person came in while he was working on me, and he got up to help her - something that was not done for me - to discuss what she wanted done. She was offered a drink - I was not.
He finally finished my manicure and told me “just sit there and let that dry” and walked away. He did not come back. I sat there for 20-30 minutes waiting for him to tell me my nails were dry. Meanwhile he was doing closing tasks, which is fine; if you have downtime, use it to get home sooner. But it was very frustrating to feel ignored for 20-30 minutes waiting to be told I was good to go. Finally, I called over to him to ask “do you think I’m dry by now?” and he looked up from closing the register and went “oh, yeah, you’re good.” I got the impression he wasn’t going to tell me I was okay to come up and pay and leave if I hadn’t asked.
So I spent more time waiting for my appointment than needed (either don’t take as many appointments close together, or don’t take every walk-in if you know you have an appointment scheduled that will interfere) and wasted more time sitting at an uncomfortable nail station waiting to be dismissed. There was nothing to do while waiting for my appointment or to be told I was good to go - no magazines, no TV, no conversation, nothing.
The other nail techs seemed really nice, and did communicate with their customers. I think I just got unlucky and got the guy in charge - who seemed like he felt “above” being a nail tech. The shop itself seemed extremely disorganized, with techs running all over the shop for tools. I worry about the cleanliness of the shop as well - the stations had nail debris on them, and my tech kept wiping his nose with his hand/sleeve while working on my nails.
The entirety of the appointment, from my appointment time to when I paid, was almost 2 hours for a classic manicure. I’m sure the other techs are lovely, but it’s difficult to recommend this shop in case you get “unlucky” like I did.
