2 /5 Emisa Anderson: I recently visited the Georgia Department of Driver Services in Bainbridge with my husband to obtain my drivers license. As a foreign citizen with dual citizenship and a resident of Georgia, I was excited to complete this important task. However, my experience was marred by the unprofessional and disrespectful behavior of a staff member named Sabrina.
From the moment we approached the front desk, it was evident that Sabrina had no interest in providing courteous service. Her rude demeanor and lack of manners were shocking. The evening before her behavior was uncalled for and unprovoked. Due it being payer in the evening, I gave her the shadow of the doubt and chalked it up to her possibly having a long day of work. The very following morning, before my drivers test, despite my attempts to be polite and greet her with a "good morning” not once but twice, she continued her rude and ignorant behavior by completely ignoring me. It was as if my politeness only fueled her unjust and uncalled for disrespect. This is appalling especially since it wasn’t just 1 time, but twice!
Feeling uneasy about the situation, my husband and I decided to address the issue directly with Sabrina immediately. My husband simply called her on her rude behavior and disrespectful tone of voice, as well as her rude mannerisms. I began by asking if Sabrina had an issue with us due to us being an interracial couple, and I myself being European. As an interracial couple, we couldnt help but wonder there was an underlining motive of racism. After speaking to Sabrina, you would think her actions would change and an apology would follow. Unfortunately, Sabrina did not take the opportunity to apologize or improve her attitude. Instead, she dismissively suggested that we seek assistance from another colleague.
Fortunately, the rest of the staff at the Georgia Department of Driver Services were extremely friendly, caring, and helpful. The manager Dominique, spoke to us on the side and gave her sincere apologies as well. She also personally conducted my drivers test to ensure we did not have any other issues during our visit. We truly appreciate everyone else’s professionalism and support. I would like to say they all made up for Sabrinas actions, but I would be lying if I said my husband and I weren’t truly bothered.
Overall, I cannot recommend the Georgia Department of Driver Services solely based on my encounter with Sabrina. It is disheartening to witness such unprofessionalism and lack of respect from a staff member who is meant to assist and serve the public. While the other staff members were exceptional, it is crucial for the management to address and rectify the behavior of individuals like Sabrina to ensure that all customers are treated with dignity and fairness. We definitely expressed our concerns to all of the management their, and we hope that appropriate action will be taken to address Sabrinas behavior.
I hope that my feedback will prompt the necessary changes to create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors.
