1 /5 YIBEI CHEN: NEVER, NEVER, NEVER go to this dentistry! Avoid Dr. Coke at all costs. The treatment I received was not only terrible but also negligent.
In 2021, I visited this clinic for a dental issue where part of my #6 tooth was missing. Despite having no pain and no exposed nerve, Dr. Coke insisted I needed a root canal. Not understanding fully, I trusted her advice and proceeded with the treatment, paying $2,497 out of pocket, as I had no insurance at the time.
The very next day after the procedure, I experienced severe pain, swelling, and bubbles in my gums. I couldn’t eat or bite anything. When I went back, Dr. Coke casually said the root canal might have failed and proposed redoing it. When I asked what would happen if it failed again, she nonchalantly replied, "Then youll just need to have the tooth extracted." No concern for my pain or well-being, just another costly procedure! She didnt even bother referring me to a specialist. I couldn’t trust her after her first failure.
For three years, I endured constant pain and discomfort. By 2023, my tooth had gotten worse, developing an infection that led to apical periodontitis. In October, the crown she placed fell off. When I returned to her clinic, she suggested redoing the root canal again – and wanted to charge me the full price! How does that make sense when I already paid nearly $3,000 for a failed procedure?
During that visit, without confirming my consent, her assistant administered anesthesia, further aggravating the situation. I didnt even go through with the procedure in the end because I had completely lost trust in her abilities. I asked Dr. Coke what caused the failure, and she couldnt even provide a clear answer, suggesting my tooth might have been fractured, which was impossible considering how healthy it was initially.
She then recommended extracting the tooth and fitting a flipper – at an additional cost of $500. By this point, I knew I couldn’t trust her with my dental care anymore.
Update: I went to a different dental clinic where the team truly cares about their patients and carefully evaluates each case. On 9/13, I had my tooth extracted, and guess what? The tooth came out completely intact – no fracture as Dr. Coke had suggested. I ended up losing a perfectly good tooth because of her poor treatment.
Avoid this clinic if you value your dental health. They don’t care about their patients, only about the money. I suffered for three long years due to their incompetence.
9/26 Updates: Thank you for your response. However, I would like to provide an update regarding my situation after the tooth extraction. Upon pressing the area below the root, I am still experiencing some pain. After further evaluation and an X-ray by my current dentist, I was informed that the root canal material was inserted too deeply, which caused the material to seep into the area beneath the tooth, leading to inflammation. Unfortunately, this material cannot be removed, meaning the failure of the initial treatment has resulted in ongoing inflammation, 3 years of pain, a misaligned bite, and a permanent issue with the material embedded deep in the tooth base.
I have attached a picture where the problematic area (the white spot) has been circled in red, clearly showing the material that has seeped in due to the failed treatment.
Given these circumstances, I would like to know how you plan to compensate me for the damages and address this issue.
