4 /5 Kiyana Bell: For the past three weeks, I’ve been searching for some good Southern soul food. Most of the restaurants I’ve visited have been pretty disappointing. Although this one had one of the lowest ratings on Google, I decided to give it a try and surprisingly, the food was pretty decent. It wasn’t quite Southern soul food, but it had potential.
The Pros:
The turkey wing was really good tender and flavorful. The mac and cheese was creamy, though it could use a bit more seasoning, especially black pepper. The greens were also tasty, and the yams were good too.
The Cons:
While the chicken was flavorful, I prefer chicken with the bone in, so I wish their chicken breast option wasn’t boneless. The dressing, even with the gravy, was very dry. I also wish they offered cranberry sauce it might have helped because the dressing had a strong sage flavor.
I’ll probably visit again, but I do hope they improve the wait time. I waited over 30 minutes, which seemed long for what I ordered. Additionally, the restaurant could be a bit cleaner; the clutter made it feel less inviting. The young lady with the red hair could have been friendlier as well.
I did enjoy the selection of gospel music they played it added a nice touch but the volume was so loud that it was difficult for the cashier to hear my order, even though I tend to speak loudly. She even mentioned that she couldn’t hear me, and I completely understood why.
Overall:
I’d rate this restaurant a 3.5 out of 5. It has real potential if they make a few improvements in service speed, cleanliness, and food consistency.
