The beach area was beautiful and relaxing, and the trails were easy to navigate and made for a really enjoyable walk. The swing coaster playground was a big hit too. It’s a great spot for kids to have fun.
One thing that really stood out was how clean everything was, from the restrooms to the picnic areas. You can tell the staff takes pride in keeping the park nice for visitors.
We brought our dog along and appreciated that the park is pet-friendly. While dogs aren’t allowed on the beach, they are welcome on the trails and in other areas as long as they’re leashed.
Overall, it was a very positive experience and we’re already looking forward to coming back again! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a simple but refreshing getaway close to home.
Elachee Nature Science Center - Gainesville Annie Borges: My 3-year-old nanny kid had an absolute blast at the Elachee Nature Science Center today! I honestly can’t believe I hadn’t discovered this hidden gem sooner. The facility is beautifully maintained, educational, and engaging—but what truly made our visit exceptional was the staff, especially an incredible environmental educator named Katie.
From the moment we arrived, Katie went above and beyond to make our experience special. She took the time to thoughtfully answer all of my questions and my curious little one’s (no easy feat!). She patiently guided us through hands-on animal encounters, offering safe, up-close experiences that were both fun and educational.
What really stood out was her natural ability to connect with children—Katie was so kind, patient, and skillful at gently redirecting my energetic three-year-old. You can instantly tell she’s passionate about what she does and deeply cares for the animals in her care. Her enthusiasm was contagious, and her kindness left a lasting impression.
Thank you, Katie, for turning our visit into such a magical and memorable adventure! We can’t wait to come back.
Atlanta Botanical Garden, GAINESVILLE - Gainesville J M: The Atlanta Botanical Garden in Gainesville is a great place to visit. The plants and flowers were vibrant, beautifully arranged and clearly well cared for—really impressive throughout the entire garden. The walking trails were easy to navigate with plenty of space to stop and enjoy the scenery. There were also a few fun play areas for kids, which were a nice bonus for those bringing children on their trip. The amphitheater is large and surrounded by colorful blooms, even though no events were happening during our visit. I’m definitely planning to come back and may even get an annual pass.
Ink Interactive Neighborhood - Gainesville Lance Swearengin: Interactive Neighborhood for Kids (INK) is a gem for families in Gainesville, Georgia! This hands-on children’s museum is a treasure trove of interactive exhibits designed to spark creativity, learning, and fun for kids of all ages. The setup mimics a mini neighborhood, complete with a grocery store, a veterinary clinic, and even emergency vehicles, allowing children to role-play and immerse themselves in real-world scenarios.
The environment is clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully organized, making it easy to navigate even on busy days. The staff are friendly. INK is not only entertaining but also highly educational, offering children a chance to learn about various professions and skills in a playful and engaging manner.
Its also a great spot for hosting birthday parties or group events, with plenty of space and activities to keep kids entertained for hours. INK truly lives up to its mission of making learning fun. Whether youre a local or just passing through Gainesville, this is a must-visit destination for families with young children!
Lanier Point Park - Gainesville Samuel Lillie: Great hidden gem of an island. Kids love it and its just a nice spot to play outside or fish. Plenty of room so it doesnt ever really seem packed.
Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve - Gainesville James D: These trails are absolutely wonderful. Its a great escape from the abundance of traffic and people. A peaceful beautiful hike through the hills. One of the best hiking places Ive been to in awhile. There is a $5 entry fee. You place $5 in an envelope at the entrance, tear off your parking tag and punch out the day you arrived. Place it on your dash or hang it from the rear view mirror.
The trails arent very difficult. There is a rolling your ankle factor due to leaves or possibly slipping on downhill steps - Be careful! A walking stick might be your style and is suggested.
Totally worth a visit. I went when the nature center was sadly closed. However, there are lots of artistic paintings and creations around the facility.
Definitely go!
Laurel Park - Gainesville Tracy Winderweedle: This park is firstly beautiful. Multiple lake views. The splash pad is great. Has a gate around it to keep kiddos safe. Then theres a gated play area right next to the splash pad. I could watch the kids in both areas and knew they were safe within the gates. There is also another play area across the road, this one isnt gated but still plenty fun. This side is where the bathrooms are located. Bathrooms were clean enough. Pretty much what youd expect at a park. Plenty of parking. Theres also a huge dog park that we didnt utilize, but it looked nice. This is definitely a park that Id highly recommend and will certainly be back to play!!!
Longwood Park - Gainesville Chris Hardaway: This is one of my favorite parks!! Lots of shade to walk in. Very relaxing scenery!!! Beautiful views of the lake. Oh yeah and for all my pokemon go fans there are a ton of poke stops out here!!!
