06-2025 Pirates cove in Hight rate 3 location for tourist in Baxley, GA, USAWWII Flight Training Museum - Douglas mark yaun: I enjoyed a Very interesting and educational personal tour led by a Very well informed retired Air Force officer, A tour started in the main building which is also the visitor center This building is packed with very many authentic displays from the time period when the Sight was an Army Air Force training center Training needed pilots for The anticipated upcoming World War II The tour continued behind the main building and the 2 hangers on the edge of the airstrip The 1st hanger housed The sections of a large World War II bomber Being reassembled to be used in air shows The 2nd hangar housed Several World War II air training planes that are functional I am also the personal aircraft of the 2 businessmen that own all the aircraft on the site There were several intact and Nearly functional aircraft on the tarmac outside of the hangers I was also fortunate to meet one of the owners of the aircraft that are on site. There is no set admission, only a small suggested donation which is posted on the door to the visitor center
Unity Park - Douglas James Young: Needs to be redid. Great park just needs to be updated. Redo the goals, and and a few things for the younger kids to play on. Slides, swings , monkeybars, a merry go round. Just small things would make it more appealing to the kids
General Coffee State Park - Nicholls B: This is a very nice state park. It is well maintained and peaceful and quiet place to spend the day. While much of the land area of the park is still recovering from Hurricane Helene, there is plenty to do and see. It is very kid friendly, especially with the farm animals here. It is a living farm with plants, chicken, goats, sheep and more. The museum by the lake has staff there to explain things. If they are not inside, they are outside in the farm area tending to the crops and animals.
Visited in late march when the Cherokee Roses, Azaleas, Dogwoods and Wisteria were in full bloom.
The boardwalk and trail behind the lake were still closed from the hurricane damage, but the close side of the lake was open with several families fishing. Lots of dragonflies and damselflies were seen flying around.
It is definitely worth the trip to come here. GA state park admission fees are low (or use an annual pass)
Laura S. Walker State Park - Waycross Kristine G: Love our Memorial weekend at the park. Site 1 was big and level. The evening sun was brutal but still a good spot. Bathhouse clean but do need a refresh. All employees and camp host friendly and accommodating.
Chimney Park - Covington Lauren Labit: I enjoy this park because of how quirky and unique it is. A great part is the trails! Highly recommend if you need something fun and free to do that gets you, your family / kiddos, and dogs out in nature. Plus, it’s right behind the library - how cool is that!
Newton County Turner Lake Park - Covington Virginia Voll: I love this park. It has so much to offer, a fishing lake with a pier designed to accommodate wheelchairs, a great playground, ball field and glorious hiking trails. The nature trails are great but not marked well so you can get a little lost, but no worries, you eventually find your way out and it adds to the adventure. There are little wooden bridges ... I always feel like I’m out in the woods even though the park is within walking distance of the city. My favorite park to take a daily walk.
Olde Town Conyers, GA - Conyers Chelsea Hayton: Not a ton going on when we visited because it was a Monday but also seemed like they could really lean in a little more to the tourists visiting for the Originals show like Covington has for Vampire Diaries fans. There were some shops that had leaned into it but seemed like a lot of shops had closed down. I could see this being a really cool bustling area for tourists of all kinds to shop and eat. Otherwise, its a very cute area to visit and Im sure the locals appreciate the peacefulness of it with a cute little park in the middle.
Georgias Old Governors Mansion - Milledgeville Doug Wallen: Took a lazy Saturday to visit nearby Milledgeville to visit the former Governors mansion. There were no other guests, so it became a one-on-one excursion through the mansion. Very well-informed docent and a thorough trip through the home. I highly recommend this trip while in Milledgeville.
Funopolis Family Fun Center - Commerce Nathan McDaniel: My daughter and I visited this place a week ago. Its just something to do because it had been raining here so much, and it was a nice day and we got out and and decided on this place. She had a good time, drove the go-karts and we played Putt-Putt and she played a few games inside. They also have bumper boats and a few other attractions as well. However, we did not partake in any of those activities.
