1 /5 Christmas Howard: I saw Shalonda on 20 April for an Amino smoothing treatment. She is very kind. She greeted me with a smile and she plays worship music. Huge plus for any Christians who are concerned about the environment in which they have to sit and take in their surroundings for a few hours.
Now, the complaints: She was 45 minutes late starting my hair which significantly disrupted my schedule for the day. She stopped doing my hair to check text messagea multiple times. She burned my scalp with the flat iron multiple times. While she was shampooing my hair, I disclosed that my hair had been texturized about a year prior and that I was in the process of gradually removing the chemically treated portion of my hair. Instead of taking this into consideration when styling my hair, she had the flat iron cranked to 450. Hair burns at about 400 degrees. And thats all i smell now... it smelled burnt and looked smoky in the salon. And every morning when i remove my bonnet, i am greeted by the scent of burnt hair. She proceeded to tell me the higher the heat the better the amino acids take to the hair. And if i continue to flat iron my hair at home, it will "lock in the treatment more and my hair will not revert." As far as i know, that is called permanent damage. Not locking in a treatment. My hair does look nice and silky smooth. But when you comb through it, you quickly know different because even the wide tooth comb is snagging on my newly gained split ends. Also, I didnt see any barbicide for any of the combs or brushes... Doesnt mean her tools are not sanitized. But i have to wondering considering that i also have a bump growing on my scalp after having her style my hair.
My previous stylist used STS Express by Design Essentials and it yielded wonderful results. Voluminous hair with minimal damage. He also never put the flat iron past 400 and i eas always impressed with the results which left me apprehensive after moving to Georgia. Everyone doesnt have the same skills and values. Shalonda used Monster Brand Smoothing System. I, personally, do not like the results. I value healthy hair over looks... and my hair health is suffering, my scalp hurts from burns and bumps. And my hair has been shedding like crazy since last Thursday.
I really wanted to like Anointed Styles and Action since I have yet to find a hair care professional here. I expected better because of the reviews. But I am disappointed.
Update: I cut about 2 inches of my hair while it was still straight. I had some atrocious split ends. Today, I washed my hair. It was supposed to revert back. You can see how straight my ends are. I suppose its from multiple flat iron passes at 450 degrees. I am so disappointed. I was looking forward to wearing my natural almost bra strap length hair for my wedding ceremony in August. I guess I will be styling a taper fade now.
