Old Fort Jackson - Savannah George Farah: A really cool historical fort to visit on the Georgia coast! Highly worth stopping by. If you like history and nature you will love this fort.
Skidaway Island State Park - Savannah Sharon Billups: This park was the highlight of our trip to Savannah. We found it because my daughter is sloth obsessed and Google AI said the park has a life-size skeleton replica of a ground sloth. They have a very nice, but small nature center with several live snakes and turtles and a huge ground sloth skeleton. The playground was super fun and well maintained. We also took a two mile hike down to the river, the trails are well maintained and clearly marked. The employees were friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back!
The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist - Savannah Brownbiggy: Spiritually Stunning and Surprisingly Fun
I wasn’t sure if I was walking into a cathedral or a basilica — turns out it’s both, and it’s absolutely breathtaking. The moment you step inside, the soaring ceilings, intricate stained glass, and peaceful energy just stop you in your tracks. I genuinely wasn’t prepared for how astonishing it would be.
The people inside were incredibly kind and informative — not in a pushy tour-guide way, just genuinely happy to share the history and beauty of the place. They answered questions, pointed out details I would’ve missed, and made the whole experience feel personal.
One highlight? I saw the baptismal pool where they actually dunk babies! I don’t know what I expected, but seeing it up close added such a human, meaningful touch to this already grand space.
Whether you’re religious or just someone who appreciates art, architecture, or peaceful places, this is a must-visit in Savannah. It’s more than just a stop — it’s an experience.
Orleans Square - Savannah Paul J. Hughes: Beautiful square with a set of several relaxing benches and a fountain surrounded by a pool. The fountain is lit internally at night. Nice selection of Dogwood and Oak trees with exceptional residential architecture on one side. This is one of 23 Savannah squares existing today. Many others feature monuments and fountains.
Savannah Botanical Gardens - Savannah Betty Woodward: It was a smaller but well maintained garden. We visited when the camellias were not in bloom but would like to visit again when they are. They had a nice are for children to explore as well as a charming library in the historical house on the grounds. It is by appointment or if by chance someone is in the grounds for a tour of the historical home and library.
Reynolds Square - Savannah Vivian K: Historic square for the founder of the Methodist Church. Clean and quiet with seating around. In the evenings, there are ghost tours that meet nearby and sometimes you can overhear their tales. Just bring bug spray or insect repellent because as I waited for a tour in the evening, I got 5 bug bites around my ankles (the only area with exposed skin as I wore long pants and long sleeves).
Monterey Square - Savannah Tristan Garrett: This square has a very cool historical monument in it, and the vibe there is always so chill and everybody is so friendly
Telfair Academy - Savannah Jenny Floria: Thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful space with sculptures, paintings, and other pieces. The rooms are open and airy, not overstuffed with too many pieces to look at. Also a lovely size, it’d be hard to lose yourself in this space compared to other larger museums. A perfect mid-day getaway!
Columbia Square - Thomas Smithfield: Columbia Square will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s where I got engaged to my wife. Tucked away in Savannah’s historic district, it’s one of the more peaceful and quiet squares, offering a perfect spot to slow down and take in the charm of the city.
The simple fountain at its center adds just the right touch of elegance, surrounded by moss-draped oaks and shaded benches. It’s not flashy or crowded, but that’s what makes it special. There’s a sense of calm and timelessness here that makes it ideal for a quiet moment or a life-changing one.
A beautiful, understated gem worth visiting and remembering.
