Postcards from Georgia: A wonderful experience and free with advance tickets. The permanent collections were very interesting and many pieces of art were beautiful and/or captivating! The temporary collections were not my style but the space provided by the museum was still done well.

A Hernandez: Beautiful place to explore all variety of plants though out the season. There is also a kids area where little ones will enjoy as well. Also great location to take special occasion pictures
Sandy Creek Nature Center - Athens
    Sandy Creek Nature Center
Sabrina Waters: Sandy Creek nature center is a beautiful place to step away from the busy pace of the city and explore the natural beauty of this hidden gem. The trails are peaceful and easy to access. After a wet season some trails may be impassable because they are in a low lying area. The center itself looks like a fun place to visit and learn about native plants and animals. (I had my dog so I didn’t venture inside) they have a nice newly constructed playground behind the center as well. There is also access to the paved greenway that goes through Athens.
World of Wonder Playground - Athens
    World of Wonder Playground
James Smith: Very cool playground for the kids. Lots of different areas to play and nice that it’s walled off with only one entry and exit. Absolutely would recommend to anyone with kids in the area. More seating would be great! But pack some chairs and your set.

    Sandy Creek Park
Natalia Brewer: I LOVE the park. There is ample parking that is a short walk to the playground. The playground is gated so you don’t have to worry about your little ones escaping. There is plenty for them to do on the playground, which is equipped with nice, new, clean attractions. There are several shaded benches for parents to sit and chill, with a nice view of the beach a short distance away. The playground is situated on soft green grass which allows your children to play with their shoes off. There is also a misting station to cool off on hot summer days. You’ll also find grilling stations and picnic tables perfect for a Saturday picnic at the park. My kids and I will be back!!!!
    TRR Cobb House - Athens
    TRR Cobb House
Richard Moss: Cool house museum of a famous historic Georgian and Athenian. House has been moved twice, once to Stone mountain and recently back to Athens, which is quite neat in its own right. They are working hard to restore it completely in a period appropriate manner, down to ordering the same pattern hand-made carpets from a centuries old company in England!
    Walker Park - Athens
    Walker Park
Moritz Maier: Great local sports park with something for everyone! Awesome biking and running trails, plus well-maintained fields for soccer, football, and baseball. Perfect spot to stay active and enjoy the outdoors!
    Double Barrel Cannon - Athens
    Double Barrel Cannon
Bruce K.: As a firearms afficionado, I was excited to stop and see the only Double Barrel Cannon in existence. A clever idea by a Confederate engineer but it turned out to be a complete failure. The problem, of course, is the imprecise detonation of the explosives which causes the two cannonballs to fire in different directions. According to witnesses, "[The chain shot] had a kind of circular motion, plowed up an acre of ground, tore up a cornfield, and mowed down saplings. The chain broke, the two balls going in opposite directions; one of the balls killed a cow in a distant field, while the other knocked down the chimney from a log cabin." The cannon was presented as a gift to the City of Athens and legend has it that it remains pointed to the North as a warning to the Union. There is street parking nearby.

Phillip Bruce: This is a great convention center facility with many different size meeting spaces. They have put together a new protocol to keep every guest safe with social distancing and sanitation.
Great Wall of Happy Hollow - Athens
avd: Built by Fred Birchmore over five years while Fred was in his 70s. The wall was finished on 8/8/88. The outer layers of rock are field-stone and granite, obtained from fields and construction sites and hauled to the site in Freds passenger car. Theres celebrity rocks in the wall from places like Antartica, Mt. Everest, Afghanistan, Iran, Gibraltar, the Grand Canyon, the Flaming Gorge, Yangzte River, rivers of Denali, Wales, ice caves of Siberia and more. Theres prehistroic giant sharks teeth and geodes as well. The president of Hungary once walked atop the wall.
