Dr. Arva Lumpkin - Atlanta (GA)

1 /5 Ashlee Carter: As a young patient, Dr. Lumpkin was our family dentist, and I remember visiting her during my last year under my parents insurance. During one of my final visits, she made a blunt comment about the condition of my teeth, which was especially unsettling given my existing fear of dentists. This encounter left a lasting negative impression, impacting my willingness to seek dental care independently. Regrettably, I havent been to a dentist in years, and the hurtful words from that experience have contributed to the state of my dental health. Despite this, I am currently seeking dental care elsewhere after several years, though those words still resonate with me.

5 /5 Veda Collins: As a person who use to HATE going to the dentist I’ve got to say that I hate it less because of Dr. Lumpkin. She’s gentle, she explains and she laughs when I tell her never to retire and leave me. If she does I will be the only she continues to care for even though she doesn’t know it yet.

1 /5 Meghan McDonald Leigh-Manuell: The front desk staff was pleasant. Both of the hygienists were kind and gentle. I was able to see the male doctor for the permanent crown. He was kind and gentle with a great bedside manner. However, I went to see Dr Lumpkin to get a temporary crown after a root canal. When she entered the room her bedside manner was gruff and unwelcoming. She told me that I had other things wrong with my teeth that I had never been told by another dentist. I have since gotten two other opinions and both me that there is anything wrong with my teeth. She stated that my front two teeth were " leaking" and I had other areas that might be concerning as far as cavities. She was trying to sell me on things that were wrong with my teeth with no treatment plan and without any evidence. She also told me that my root canal wasnt done properly and that there was extra filling at the bottom of the root canal. When she started doing the work she didnt tell me what she was doing and started giving me injections of Novocaine. She was incredibly rough and fast with the procedure and it was incredibly painful. She never once explained anything to me during the entire process. I have never had a root canal or a crown and didnt know what to expect. Once I was numb she put in the bite block and I told her it was too big for my mouth. She said that even though I was complaining that it was too big that it was perfectly fine and that she needed to have it in my mouth to continue. I told her that it was painful and she told me that instead of worrying that it was cutting my mouth that we should just numb my mouth up so that I wouldnt feel that it was cutting me. She didnt listen to any of my concerns and left the bite block in my mouth despite how much pain I was in. I even asked for other means of keeping my mouth open such as a dental dam so that I could relax it in between her working and she said no. I started to panic and almost walked out but decided to stay because I was too nervous to leave. She was very intimidating and downplayed any of my concerns. She never explained to me that she was about to shave my tooth down. She was incredibly rough during the procedure and kept knocking her dental instruments against other teeth incredibly hard. She knows that I have bonding on my two front teeth and kept cracking her dental instruments against it very hard. I understand it is normal to occasionally bump your teeth but she was very aggressive and careless. I was so traumatized by what she was doing I went into a complete shutdown and started to disassociate. After finishing the grinding of my teeth She defended all of her actions saying that that was the only thing that she could do and that if I hadnt had the bite block in she wouldnt have been able to do the procedure. Once she was done with the procedure she walked out without saying anything else to me. I felt completely taken advantage of, violated and traumatized. A few days after the procedure I started having issues with my jaw. Because of the trauma to my mouth I developed lockjaw (Trismus) and have had issues with speaking and opening my mouth enough to eat. I am not a dramatic person but I feel completely traumatized by this experience. I was fortunately able to see the other dentist at the practice for the permanent crown and didnt have to see Dr. Lumpkin again. The way I was treated, her carelessness, her aggressiveness and her lack of evidence for thousands of dollars worth of work for my teeth are completely unprofessional and dangerous. She is uncaring, unprofessional and aggressive. She gaslights you and tells you you need tons of work that you dont actually need. Even though I like the other doctor I would never return to this practice. If you are reading this and have gotten this far you have been warned. Stay away. Please listen to the other reviews that you have read. If this is being read by Dr. Lumpkin please dont take the time to respond. All your responses do is further prove what all of us are saying. You dont listen and get defensive and all you do is gas light.
