5 /5 Rafe Kossak: Alright. Ill start by saying my family lives in missouri, I was stationed in texas, best friend is from memphis. Ive been around the bbq block a time or two. Is this place revolutionary? No.
Is it the best spot for 50 miles? Theres no doubt in my mind. Its the best bar-b-que in Augusta, and it isnt even close.
We got turkey, brisket, wings, collards, mac, okra, sweet potato tots, and broccoli casserole. And a mud pie.
Turkey was moist, tender, and peppery. Brisket was delicious with a perfect smoke ring. Wings were the worst of the three, and if I could do it again, id probably leave em and get some pork. They were out of tri tip, but we got to try some and it was tender and delicious.
Sauces were good. White was as good as anything in alabama, georgia was perfectly peppery, and the mustard was killer. Mixed the mustard, honey, vinegar, and jalapeno to make a killer blend. Collards were very good. Wish they had some heat or meat in them, but good nonetheless. Broc casserole was great. Mac and cheese was indeed cheesy. Okra was fine--Fried perfectly, but clearly not breaded in house. Sweet potato tots were tasty. Again, perfect fry. Mud pie was cool, but I wish Id said no to drugs.
Service was great too. Good management, and some very friendly and patient people at the front counter. Not sure what more you could ask for.
This place is a done deal for what Ive tried in Augusta. Significantly better than the rest. If you want good bbq in this city, go here.
