4 /5 David Brown: First off, we loved the atmosphere and the staff.
This place is an old school drive-in with a number of outdoor picnic tables if you want to eat onsite. Since we live an hour away, we chose to eat onsite.
Everyone that we came in contact with was helpful, friendly, and seemed to be genuinely concerned for our well being during our visit. During our visit I learned that they are under third generation family ownership, and I sincerely hope that they are able to continue the tradition on for generations to come.
Next, what did we order? A little bit of everything, honestly. For my wife and I we ordered with the expectation to take the leftovers home, and thats exactly what we did.
Our order was, a barbecue sandwich, cup of Brunswick stew, a cheeseburger, a hamburger, a chili cheese slaw dog, and of course fries, sweet potato fries, and drinks.
And, the review:
My wife loved the stew. I thought that it was a little on the sweet side, but she loved it and we brought home two extra pints.
The hot dog was very good, but I will skip the cheese (sliced American) next time and stick with chili and slaw.
The burger was "interesting". The restaurant describes it on their menu as "scrambled". Think about it as a sloppy Joe without the tomato sauce.
The barbecue sandwich was very good and I will definitely order it again.
The fries look to be house cut, fresh potatoes. Unfortunately, we were there in the middle of their evening rush hour, and the fries were a little soggy, undercooked. I am guessing that is the result of below temperature oil as they were hustling to fill orders. I am thinking that on another day, or at another hour, they would have been spot on perfect.
And before we left we ordered a milkshake, orange cream flavor. Very sweet and very good. Our car hop said that it is made with their soft serve ice cream and Fanta Orange syrup. I am guessing that means no calories.
All in all, we will go back, choosing our time of arrival thirty minutes before, or after "rush hour".
