United Community - Blue Ridge Victoria Garcia Melanson: I don’t usually write negative reviews. But this is truly one of the least competent banks I’ve ever worked with. The list is very long but includes the following:
- two weeks before closing, we were informed that our closing costs were not calculated correctly and we had to produce many tens of thousands of dollars by closing date or we’d lose our interest rate. This caused a huge overhaul of our finances and was incredibly stressful. The bank was unwilling to increase our loan amount (even though we were way below our debt to income ratio) or delay closing even though they admitted it was a clerical error.
- TWICE I went in-person to set up auto payments for my mortgage. The first time the payments never went through and I was charged late fees, which tanked my credit score. It took weeks to correct this and get the fees forgiven after I produced evidence showing I did the paperwork on my end. The same thing happened AGAIN a second time!! I was told to come in a THIRD time but I opted to do things online….speaking of which….
- their online banking system is easily the worst system I’ve ever worked with. The system only allows one transaction daily, and it cannot exceed $2,000. So to pay our mortgage I need to do multiple transactions over multiple days.
- because the bank closes at 4pm, you cannot do any online banking after 4pm or on weekends!!
- I set up scheduled monthly transactions so I didn’t have to think about missing a payment. However, this month, two of the three transactions fell on a weekend. So instead of moving it to the next business day, the transaction just didn’t happen, with no notice or communication.
Honestly I can’t wait to refinance and walk away from this bank. The workers all seem very nice, but the system is incredibly limited and they aren’t used to working with larger loans or anything remotely complicated.
