1 /5 Lindsey: KICKED US OUT SHAM TAX RETURNS ATTACHED
The owner and her employees kicked us out of “Veteran” thrift store while yelling at us that “WE SHOULD BE ASHAMED! We both also come from veteran families. Both of our immediate family members served in WW2, Korea,Vietnam, Gulf, Iraq, Afghanistan. Granduncle passed Battle of Bulge. Uncle passed 101st Airborne Flight 1285.
We have spent $500+ there in the last year. On the door, there was a sign that said “50% OFF Clothing” Just below in tiny writing No Camo or Sports Team Gear. We spent about 30 min looking for sale items. Line is long, the clerk seems troubled, but the conversation with shoppers is pleasant. When our turn came, our total was double of what it should have been. I had a pair of USED denim overalls. She said that they weren’t half off. I pointed out it was 50% off. She said that did not include Camouflage. I said they aren’t camouflage. She said,“yes they are”. I calmly said malm this is blue denim not camouflage. She said the sign meant anything in the camo section. I was not going to argue. I said I did not want the overalls. They were $20! I did pick them up and ask the line of people if any of them considered these camouflage. All no’s. One said “I was in the military, I have to say no”. As I put my card into the reader to pay, I calmly told the lady that I thought they were being a bit dishonest. She stopped, said ”just hold on”, and as she headed to the back, I said malm I don’t want the overalls. I assumed she was going to ask about the price. After a long wait she came back with two ladies. I smiled at them and immediately one aggressively asked “do we have a problem”? Haha I don’t know what she went back there and told them because when they walked up, they were ready for a fight. Me: no there is not a problem; we’re just checking out and she left to go get you. We did point out the discrepancy in the sale and when I did that, they went into a rage. They yelled we were the only ones that had a problem with it”. 30-40 min have been wasted but we really didn’t have a problem; we just wanted to check out and use our freedom of speech to express our feelings of injustice at their store. Freedom of speech. What veterans fight for you know? I tried to explain what happened and the attack escalated. My girlfriend finally had enough and calmly, said “you know what, this place is a scam. You get all of this stuff for free, you are subsidized by the government as a non profit, and you are selling used overalls for $20”. Some were $25-$30. Nonetheless, when she said that, the owner flipped out and almost got physical. She bowed up to my girlfriend. The owner of the store hollered at us as she clapped her hands in our face. “YA’LL SHOULD BE ASHAMED! THIS IS A VETERAN’S STORE”!!YA’LL JUST LEAVE” as she clapped and shewed us like dogs.
My girlfriend began to speak; I asked her to be quiet because I knew the next thing she was going to say was that YA’LL ARE KICKING OUT A VETERAN: I wanted to see how they support vets. I calmly tried to explain the possible miscommunication but the response was the owner yelling BYE over and over. One exclaimed we gave $20k to vets. Did they really? NO. It was actually 100% tax write off to fly vets to a memorial. Not rents paid, Not food. Not medical. Not overalls. It also served as advertisement through social media and the news. They would have to pay the $20K to IRS or Vets either way. But instead of going directly to vets, it went as a write off for plane tickets.
