1 /5 Coco: Re: Meals on Wheels.
First, let me add that I am a counselor who frequently refers/arranges community services for individuals in need so I am highly familiar with processes and eligibility requirements for such services. I called First United yesterday seeking Meals on Wheels for my own mother who was placed on hospice at home. I received a call from Dorothy C. at 814pm apologizing stating that my parents address is *too far* for Meals on Wheels to be delivered. Dorothy, the director for Meals on Wheels as FUMC, claims to not have any volunteers who can drive "that far out." My parents live 5.8 miles (11 min) from First United Methodist Church. Apparently, you have to live less than 5 miles from the church in order to be eligible for assistance. As an advocate for individuals with disabilities, I have never been so utterly disgusted by a program within the community that supposed to be geared towards helping our most vulnerable population but refuses to do so because 5.8 miles is "too far out."
