As a first-time visitor, I was really excited to check out Lake Winnie, especially knowing it was once a beloved amusement park with so much history. But sadly, my experience left me feeling disappointed.
You can tell the park probably had its glory days before the 90s, but now it feels like it’s been frozen in time and forgotten. The rides and equipment look outdated and not well-maintained, and the overall cleanliness of the park is lacking. It’s disheartening to see a place that likely brought joy to so many now in this condition.
Of course, this is just my personal experience as a first-timer, and I truly hate to say this, but if things don’t change, I honestly don’t see this park lasting another 10 years. It needs serious attention — but there’s still hope.
They could start making changes today, little by little, and with real effort, they might revive the charm and win back customers. I genuinely hope they do.
Mother Goose Village - Lookout Mountain Grim_lens: My partner and I recently visited Mother Goose Village, and it was truly a magical experience. Having fond memories of this place from childhood, I was thrilled to see that it still holds the same charm and wonder after all these years.
From the moment we arrived, it was like stepping into a nostalgic fairytale. Every corner of the village was beautifully maintained, with vibrant colors, whimsical details, and a sense of enchantment that made us feel like kids again. The attention to detail in the displays and storytelling elements brought back so many cherished memories.
One of the best things about Mother Goose Village is how well-kept it remains. Even after all this time, the village still feels alive and full of magic. It’s clear that a lot of love and care goes into preserving its charm, making it just as delightful for new visitors as it is for those returning from childhood.
Overall, our visit was an absolute joy. Whether youre reliving childhood memories or experiencing it for the first time, Mother Goose Village is a must-visit destination. I’m so glad we got to see it again—it remains a wonderful, timeless treasure.
Clisby Austin House - Tunnel Hill Jennifer Hennequant: This is run by the Civil War Railroad Tunnel.
The whole complex is spread out, and worth seeing each area. Some parts like the recreated general store have to be set up in advance. So much history here! Worth taking a picnic lunch and relaxing on the grounds.
The covered bridge is neat to drive through.
If walking is a concern, there is parking outside of the Clisby house, the museum, and the tunnel.
For some education prior to visiting consider watching the Great Locomotive Chase, or read up in it.
Okefenokee Adventures - Folkston Melissa Jack: Okefenokee Adventure Park is an incredible place to explore, and at just $5 per person for a full week of access, it’s an amazing value. We could have easily spent multiple days here soaking in the beauty of the swamp.
We took the 90-minute guided boat tour, and it was fantastic. The calm, relaxing ride was full of fascinating sights—alligators, turtles, birds, and all kinds of plant life. It was engaging enough to keep our 3- and 2-year-olds entertained the whole time, which is no small feat!
Beyond the water, there’s plenty more to see. The short hike along the canal was great, and the Chester Boardwalk was a highlight. The 1.5-mile round-trip walk includes little stop-off points to rest and take in the scenery, all fully handicap accessible. The observation tower at the end gives a stunning view over the swamp.
Swamp Island Drive was another favorite. It’s a slow, scenic drive where you can spot tons of wildlife—definitely take your time so you don’t miss anything!
Overall, we loved this place and highly recommend it. Whether you’re boating, hiking, or just taking in the sights, Okefenokee is a truly special adventure.
