1 /5 claygale hopkins: May 2025. Took my 2009 Volvo V50 to Cumming Tire after my daughter hit a curb and damaged the drivers side front tire to a point that it needed replacement. After closer inspection, it was obvious that there was more damage than just the tire (Cumming Tire couldnt get the exact same tire, so I ordered one from Wal-Mart and carried it to them to mount and balance). So, I was told that indeed, there was additional damage. I would need inner and outer tie rods, control arm, struts on both sides, passenger side front hub bearing and an alignment. Estimated cost...$1700 - $2000. I agreed to go ahead with the repairs and picked the car up two days later. I live about 20 miles from the store and at about the 15 mile marked while driving home, I noticed a slight squeal coming from the passenger side front. I drove the additional 5 miles home, thinking I would look at it when I got there and take it back to them the following day (Thursday). As I approached the entrance to my subdivision and started breaking, there was suddenly a horrendous grinding noise coming from the drivers side front. The noise continued after releasing the brake pedal. Well, I obviously didnt want to drive the car with the noises coming from the front end and I certainly wasnt going to pay for a tow back to the shop, so I parked it in the driveway. I didnt have time to look at it until Friday night and what I found, floored me. After removing the drivers side wheel and tire, and inspecting the rotor and break caliper, I discovered that the top bolt that holds the caliper in place was only screwed in about half way.....and the bottom bolt was missing entirely! The squeal coming from the passenger side was due to a bent rotor shield. The rotor was scraping against it in two places. After purchasing a bolt to replace the one that was missing and tightening the one that was loose, and correcting the bent rotor shield, my Volvo is back on the road. I will say that the counter help at Cumming Tire was very courteous and seemed to know what they were talking about, but they should follow up with the crack mechanic that worked on my car. Unfortunately, I will not be doing business with Cumming Tire in the future. Maybe its just me, but when I spend the kind of money I did...I expect a professional job and I shouldnt have to go behind the mechanic to complete the job!
