5 /5 Donna Tipton: I attended services at Covenant Presbyterian Church 3 weekends and one midweek service, within the past 7 months, when visiting my daughter who is a member there. I found the congregation to be warm and welcoming, the preaching to be grounded in Scripture, the singing to be enthusiastic and pleasant (a mixture of psalms and hymns) and accompanied by good piano playing. There’s a mixture of ages, with a strong core of men, who also enjoy visiting after the service, women who love to talk and visit as well, families with kids and the kids seem respectful and interested and love playing afterwards when everyone’s hanging out after services. Prayer is important in this congregation, evident throughout the service and especially the pastoral prayer time, when the leadership prays for our country, the community, schools, people in challenging situations or places; missionaries are prayed for specifically by name, and numerous other concerns. I appreciated the friendliness of people, and I think it’s because they’re showing the love of Jesus, through their caring for and enjoying one another, but they gather to glorify God and learn more about Him through the preaching of the Bible. It’s a good place to learn and grow in faith.
5 /5 Isabel Derryberry: Covenant is my home church. I have been to many OPC’s and PCA’s in my life, and I have never found any Reformed preaching better than Pastor Boyd’s. The community here is so warm and inviting. Every time I come home to visit, I am joyously greeted by this faithful congregation.
5 /5 Deborah Channell: This church has a heart for people and a love for the Lord. Also, if you have an infant, you dont need to be worried about it crying or being disruptive. They have a nursing room where the preaching is audio streamed, but there are also a lot of families with little ones, so it common to have them in your lap making some noise during the sermon.
3 /5 LCDRformat: Lovely congregation, very nice sermon and welcoming folks. However, everyone was cold and tense - as if a terrible unspoken secret hung over the head of the church. Three stars.
1 /5 Theresa Robertson: Ephesians 5:11- Don’t participate in the fruitless works of darkness, but instead expose them. I was a member of this churchfrom the ages of 14-19, with my parents and younger siblings attending much longer. At the age of 18, each of my siblings left to find other houses of worship because of the overbearing and inappropriate nature of the pastor. He was inappropriate with young girls in the congregation, which was recognized by the elders and called out by myself but it was never addressed by the Elders. The behavior continued far past my time there. The pastor frequently overstepped in personal matters, stalked via social media, and when called out, would then “seek forgiveness IF he had offended”. He is manipulative and incredibly dishonest when he knows he has been caught (i.e. “oh, I called them and we talked and everything is fine” but the person on the receiving end has a very different version of the conversation.) He was under investigation over the summer and put on leave. The Presbytery of the Southeast-known for protecting their own in these situations, didn’t share the whole story or the facts with the congregation, chose to do nothing as far as discipline, and the congregation in now villainizing survivors of this man’s egregious acts while protecting their pastor who is still in the pulpit as a minister of the Gospel. While knowledgeable about the Bible, the pastor’s sermons lack a complete picture of the Gospel and the heart of Jesus. He speaks ill of other denominations, and has an air of “no one does it right but us.” I regret not speaking out sooner. A poor style of preaching and a haughty spirit is one thing. But the pattern of inappropriate behavior towards underage girls under the guise of a pastor is a fruitless work of darkness that needs to be exposed.
