In elementary school this church traumatized me with a Halloween “hell house.” I didn’t consent to that experience back then and as an an adult I don’t understand what biblical basis there was for this. I just thought we were going on a youth trip for Halloween. An entire generation of children were disturbed by this Halloween dramatization for an imagined place none of the planners of the haunted house have proof for or ever visited themselves. Perhaps someone else with a better memory can describe the individual details as I can only recall extreme heat and fire and being terrified of the devil, hell and people “of the world”. As an adult now I wonder why other adults at that time didn’t speak up that it was a bad idea to dramatize hell for Halloween children entertainment.

After my second visit, my friend being a married man was questioned about his relationship with me and if it was more than a friendship. Never have I felt so disrespected and humiliated. How can you say you welcome people to be added to a church that teaches the truth about Christ, and say things that are so untrue and disrespectful. My prayer is that your elders learn how to focus on helping others with a relationship with Christ and not with accusing one with an inappropriate relationship.
