1 /5 Nesa Kleinheksel: I was quite disappointed with my service at Almost Auto. I came in because I was hearing squeaking when I braked and needed a tune up. I received my inspection report quite promptly and accepted charges for new brake pads in front and some very costly spark plugs. However, 2 hours go by and I received another inspection report detailing that I needed more work done that wasn’t listed on the 1st report. I then decided not to do the spark plugs thinking I would need to get other brake work done as the spark plugs weren’t in the “red” category. So I moved forward with just with the work on the front brakes. I picked up the vehicle the same day and was pleased on how fast they got it done, however, Upon picking up the vehicle I noticed right away that the check engine light was now on. I went back inside and they did fix it stating there was a loose wire they forgot to attach. Mistakes happen I thought, but was a bit concerned that they didn’t notice this when they test drove the vehicle after the repairs they did to the brakes.
As i drove the vehicle over the weekend I kept hearing the same squealing noise as I did prior to bringing it in and also noticed the vehicle was now leaking oil. I called them Monday morning and brought the vehicle back in. An hour later they called and said they needed to do a diagnostic of it which would cost $195 as they couldn’t determine what was causing the squeaking and that I needed a new oil housing unit which would cost $1500. I couldn’t quite comprehend as to why they didn’t find the leaking oil during their 46 point inspection when I initially brought it in, but they said that it would have not shown up on that inspection as it was difficult to find. At that point it I didn’t feel like I needed to go any further with this auto shop, so I took my vehicle up the street to get a second opinion as I felt like I just wasted $600 on front brake pads that didn’t fix the problem that I initially came in for and I now had a new oil leak problem which I didn’t have before I brought it in. . (I also had those front brake pads replaced less than 2 years ago) and I am glad I did. The new shop explained to me what was going on with the squealing and the oil housing didn’t need to be replaced, it was just the drain plug. Both problems fixed for a couple hundred bucks versus a couple thousand that Almost Auto would have charged.
