2 /5 ScottW -GA-USA: Disappointed by the Food Quality, But the Atmosphere is Charming
We recently visited Steeleys Grill And Tackle in Dearing for dinner, with high hopes based on the positive reviews wed read. While the restaurant itself is very appealing—it has wonderful curb appeal and a charming interior that suggests a great small-town, "Mom and Pop" experience—our expectations for the food were, unfortunately, not met.
We ordered the Lemon Pepper Wings with fries and mac n cheese, and the advertised Salisbury Steak with rice, gravy, and green beans.
Our main critique centers on the quality and preparation of the ingredients. We observed that many items, including the wings, french fries, and what appeared to be the pre-formed Salisbury steak patties, seemed to be sourced directly from a commercial freezer. The green beans were uniformly cut, suggesting a frozen, commercially prepared product, and the Salisbury Steak itself was quite chewy and, in our opinion, seemed more like a drowned hamburger patty with a jarred gravy than a proper Salisbury steak.
On the positive side, my partner found the mac n cheese to be tasty, even if the flavor suggested it was commercially manufactured.
Overall, we felt the meal was not a good value for the price of approximately $15 per plate. The service was also minimal; after our food was delivered, no one checked on us to offer drink refills or see if we needed anything else.
While we truly wanted to find a great little local establishment to support, the heavy reliance on commercially prepared, frozen ingredients left us disappointed. The wonderful atmosphere deserves a much higher standard of food quality.
