4 /5 Jason O. Nungesser: Rounding up from 3.5 because we cant use half stars.
Came here because Im staying nearby and hadnt been to a Captain Ds in decades. In fact, I hadnt been since I was a kid (decades ago).
I ordered the sampler and one of the ladies convinced me to get broccoli with cheese as one of my sides.
The good:
The restaurant was clean and the music playing overhead was ... acceptable. A roll of paper towels and hot sauce were at all the tables.
The food wasnt bad. I dont think anyone needs that much "fried" and any meal smaller might have been better, but I wanted to try a little of everything.
The shrimp wasnt too bad. Neither was the chicken, which was very moist. The fish wasnt bad, per se, but there was something missing or being overpowered by the grease from the fryer.
That applies everything I ate. The food was very greasy overall.
The coleslaw was okay, but not special, and the broccoli was underwhelming. It tasted microwaved and not actually steamed. Is it supposed to be steamed? The cheese on the broccoli was watery and left a puddle in my tray.
The tea actually tasted pretty good. Far too often some of these fast food joints dont properly clean their tea pitchers and it tastes rancid. This place had good tea. which I appreciated.
The staff were great. Very friendly and customer service oriented.
The bad:
Ive already alluded to the greasiness of the food and can honestly state I wont be having anything fried or cooked with grease for a month or so - or until my arteries clear up.
The soda machine is limited, but covers the bases with Pepsi products.
The floor was so greasy I could slide on it without moving. This is in the dining area. It was so greasy that when a woman with a cane came in, I thought for sure shed slip and fall. She didnt (but she did call the man she was with a "jerk" and I thought he was going to lose his mind).
Dont get me wrong, the floor is mopped, theyre just not using anything that can break down the grease to clean it up.
When I picked up my tray, it didnt have tarter sauce and none was offered to me. I had to go back to the front and ask for some. No other sauces were offered for the chicken or shrimp.
All-in-all this was a 3/3.5 visit. Would I return? Maybe in the far future, once Ive forgotten about this experience.
