3 /5 Smile Its Jerome: I ordered ala cart.
1 Pastor Taco $2.99 : 1 Queso Birria Taco $4.99
1 Pollo con Queso Pupusa $3.50
1 Tres Leche Cake $3.99
Both the tacos fell flat.
I expect Pastor to be brimming with a vibrant, tangy-sweet, and mildly spicy flavor profile, with an aromatic depth from its unique marinade. Instead it was fairly bland, with neither a hint of spicy nor sweet.
I expect Birria to be rich with a smoky flavor and an earthy heat. The meat itself should be succulent, almost melting in your mouth. This was also bland, with little to no smokiness nor heat, it was also over cooked and too tough.
The Pollo pupusa changed my mind.
It was really good.
The pupusa’s thick masa breading was toasted to a beautiful golden crust with the right amount of char to add flavor without tasting burnt.
Inside, shredded chicken was tender and seasoned just right. The cheese was mild and creamy which smoothly added richness to each bite.
My only complaint here is that the pupusa wasn’t served with a traditional curtido or even a salsa.
Lastly the Tres Leche Cake.
Delicate, moist, sweet, with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. Each bite is creamy and slightly cool, with the milk mixture providing a silky texture that contrasts with the cake’s airy crumb. It was the star of the meal.
I will go back to try some other items, but honestly the tacos were disappointing.
For great tacos I suggest :
Pinches Taco Shack in Covington OR
Tacos Lupita in Conyers.
